Sharon headed into the tunnel, hoping that it would lead outside. There seemed to be a faint light at the far end of it, which was encouraging. She hadn't gone very far when she realised that her clothes were starting to disintegrate. Had what she had thought was water been dilute acid? At least it didn't appear to be having any harmful effect on her skin.
By the time she reached the far end of the tunnel, apart from her shoes her attire had been reduced to nothing more than a few tattered rags that did almost nothing to preserve her modesty. She found herself not in the open air, as she had hoped, but in a huge cavern. It was quite well lit, as there was a large hole in the roof through which she could see the sky. However the opening was at least fifty feet above her head.
